Is Fever And Painful Jaw Common When Having TMJ Symptoms?
I am a 33yr old male @ 145lbs w/ history of TMJ. Recently I had intense jaw, head, neck and eye pain accompanied by a sensitive scalp and fever not exceeding 101F. The pain and fever was treated with ibuprofen twice daily and hydrocodone as needed. It was diagnosed as a migraine flared up with TMJ in combination with a viral infection. No ENT symptoms accompanied. Longevity was one week. Should I follow up with GP? Also a week later have a family member with jaw pain(not ending) and low fever. Is this common or anything to worry about?
TMJ problems are not so common in your age. you should not ignore this otherwise this can create problem latter on. rather than going to a gp dentist you directly go to a TMJ specialist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon or one oral physician.
Hello sir, I understand your problem.TMJ problem is mainly due to some inflammatory changes .Treat the cause first for permanent cure along with drugs for your symptoms .The infection or inflammation of TMJ bone or the articular disc in TMJ or ligaments attached to it may develop symptoms you have. First find out the exact location of problem using TMJ view x-rays or specialised TMJ disorder diagnostic imaging.Till you rule out TMJ problem avoid excessive mouth opening while eating, yawning or laughing. If everything is clear suspect WISDOM tooth eruption or impaction. Hope your query is answered. If not please dont hesitate to contact me.
