Is Fever While Suffering From An UTI A Matter Of Concern?
I am post 2 weeks from a partial hysterectomy due to fibroids. I had a robotic surgery. 4 days after I developed a UTI and 1st antibiotic didnt do much. Changed antibiotics and im feeling better but still running 99.3 fever and today I have had gishes of water. Enough to fill 2 pads. Should I be alarmed?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The low-grade rise of temperature with some rigers coming once or twice a day is a feature of UTI till the infection is controlled.
The fever is not constant. If you have a constant fever with bushes of water per vagina.
Infection & inflammation in hysterectomy wound needs to be excluded (by vaginal swab test mostly); which would need additional anti I inflammatory drugs.
Please consult your surgeon. Till then try to keep the genital area clean, drink a lot of water & continue with the antibiotic.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
