Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m currently in London and I have an underlying potential bacteria or fungal lung infection & am required to fly back to Sydney for another procedure. Last week I got pleurisy & was put on antibiotics & a strong ibopuferon. The pain has come back & I feel I need to fly back to continue the investigation & next procedure , that being a biopsy. I m assuming the pleurisy is still present, so is it safe for me to fly long haul while with pluerisy ?
Pleurisy is an inflammation of the lung lining. It can be treated effectively by administration of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication.
Pleurisy generally lasts from a few days to 2 weeks depending on the cause and severity of the inflammation. It often resolves completely with treatment.
If it is still in the acute phase or you are experiencing a few of the symptoms on and off, you need to avoid traveling. If the symptoms are under control and you are comfortable, you can travel by flight, but make sure you notify the company you are booking with of your condition and how serious it is. So cabin crew can be prepared for any emergency.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
