Is Having Intermittent Sharp Pain In My Upper Abdomen Under My Rib Cage A Possible Medical Emergency?
I started having sharp pain in my upper abdomen under my ribs about two hours ago. It comes and goes and sometimes last a min or so. I feel like it’s becoming more frequent and is very uncomfortable where now I don’t want to get up and do anything. Should I wait it out and see if other symptoms occur or is this a possible medical emergency?
Pain in upper abdomen under the rib cage can be an emergency as the possible causes can be one of the following. If on left side can be related to heart attack. If on right side, the pain can be due to gallstones or gallbladder infection, liver pathology.
It can also be due to gastritis, duodenitis or pancreatitis. Hence, this is an Emergency and hence should be seen by a Doctor, examination and investigations will help to get an appropriate diagnosis hence possible o have a specific treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
