Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is a heavy clotting period postpartum normal? I am 4 months postpartum this is my second period but much heavier then my first. I exclusively breast feed. My baby was born via a planned c-section and I had both my tubes removed at the same time. I have little to no cramping and had no pms signs which prior to this pregnancy I d also had both.
Though abnormal bleeding can occur post partum, exclusive breast feeding is normally associated with decrease in menstrual bleeding. Having said that, the menstrual cycle can be affected by many different factors including:(1) physical illness, (2)emotional stress or illness, (3) medication, (4)diet, (5)abnormal hormone levels , (6)structural issues (Eg fibroids), (7) infection
If the heavy bleeding continues then you may need to consider seeing your doctor for an assessment which would include physical examination and possibly imaging (ultrasound)
I hope this helps
