Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 43yr old Woman who has been on Macrodantin since Feb for constant UTI's, Bladder, Kidney infections and gross hematuria. I recently was told I had "Ecoli" and was prescribed "500mg 4x's a day". Why such a heavy dose when I've normally taken 2 a day. Thank you for your response.
I am so sorry to hear about this recurrent UTI. I will suggest that your doctors look into the promoting factors of this recurrent infections rather than merely treating the recurrent episodes. There is no macrodantin 500mg and am concerned it might have been 50 and not 500mg. If you are sure this was for real 500mg, please talk to your doctor as this seems to high and well beyond the recommended dose of 100mg at most 4 times daily. I think there is a mixed up unless otherwise. Please, ask you doctor to look for predisposing factors to UTI's like kidney stones, urinary retention, etc to correctly address this problem.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications should need be. Thanks for using our services. We very much appreciate that.
