Is Heavy Vaginal Discharge Normal In Women Undergoing Menopause?
I entered menopause 7 years ago. I have had no problems since my last period. I simply stopped menstruating. I am now 56. I have had normal pap smear tests annually, but for the past two years had a vaginal discharge for which I am told everything seems normal. I was prescribed Premarin twice weekly. I recently started having blood spotting, very light most days, then I just had one day of some heavier discharge that obviously had blood in it. Is this normal???
Hello, Thank you for asking at HCM. I carefully read your question and understand your concern. If you are in menopause for several years and are now spotting or having bleeding discharge it might be related to dry vaginal walls or cervical polyps which are very common and not serious but it is always good to do tests to see the inner layer of the uterus to rule out more serious diagnosis related to thick endometrium (inner uterus layer). so I would recommend having a vaginal ultrasound, if you had your pap smear more than 3 years ago it is time to repeat it and also while having the pap smear you will have a gynae visit which will check the vagina for lesions there. Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
