Is Implanting Radioactive Iodine Pellets In My Thyroid Gland Better Than Methimazole?

I have been on Methimazole for Hyperthyroidism in the past, 2007 and 2011. After several months my test numbers were normal each time and I was advised to quit using the med. I recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism again after my latest round of blood tests. My new Endo. Dr. said it was inadvisable to keep coming back to this med and he wants to implant radioactive Iodine pellets in my thyroid (small nodules noted on a sonogram). Before I get a second opinion what do you think.Female, age 65. On Eliquis

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, yes it can be used as first-line therapy in elders and may be a safer alternative to surgery. It may need however lifelong replacement after losing all overactive thyroid tissue.
