Is Is Safe To Travel Post Displaced Tibia Plateau Fracture?
I have a slightly displaced tibia plateau fracture. My Ortho has said he believed it would heal fine without surgery, It is braced and I am non weight bearing. I am on day 13 post fall. We have a scheduled trip to Colorado. Surgeon told me to keep my leg up as best I can by riding in the back seat and keeping it up. I have a walker, crutches & wheelchair. We do have some things scheduled pre accident. Is it ok to do this travel or am I looking at causing more harm.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. As the fracture is not fixed surgically and only braced, you should be very careful to keep it immobilized. Maintaining the fractured part together and immobilized is the main requisite for healing. If movement of the fractured area occurs then healing will be impaired and further surgical reduction might be required. So if you can maintain such things during your journey then it is OK to travel. Hope this may help you. Let me know if any thing not clear. Thanks.
