Is It Advisable To Be Total Weight Bearing After A Fracture?

2 weeks ago I sustained a transverse plane non-displaced lateral tibial fracture involving an approximately 1.8 x 1.4 cm region. I have been total weight-bearing since - all my orthopedist said was to avoid any high impact activities. Is it safe to be total weight-bearing?

Hello,

It's not advisable to totally weight bear within 2 weeks of tibial fracture. Recovery time for a tibia fracture typically takes 4-6 months to heal completely. so please wait at least until 6 weeks to weight bear on tibia to prevent non union or malunion of broken bone.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
