Is It Advisable To Clear The Bowels Everyday Using Suppositories?
My doc told me that I m having Intestinal pseudoobstruction & advised using enema fleet once every 3-4days. Btw, I m a tetraplegia due to spinal cord injury 14yrs ago & underwent a sub-total colostomy a year ago. Before the intestinal operation, I had to use suppositories every day over the 13years. After the intestinal operation, my bowel movement was like 3 to 4 times a day which I had no control over it. And now no bowel movement without enema fleet. My question is, is it ok for my body in the long run if I clear my bowel movement once every 3 to 4 days? Is it better for my body if I were to clear my bowel movement daily using suppositories (Like in the past)?
Yes, it is fine to use the suppositories once in a while, e.g. a few times a week. In your case, you just have to find a balance that you feel OK with.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
