Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am presently suffering very badly with Gerd.. acid reflux...heart burn, chest pain and feeling sick after food. I am also experiencing body chills, which I would normally associate with some kind of infection and feel extremely fatigued. Is it common to have body chills with Gerd? I have been prescribed omeprazole by my Gp, but is there anything else you can suggest. Many thanks.
Hi! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
No ! GERD is not associated with chills. Chills could be due to any kind of infection causing fever. Many a times intestinal infections creep in from food eaten from outside, which might have happened if you do eat from outside. This kind of intestinal infection either could be the reason of the GERD or might precipitate a previously existing GERD. Therefore, if I were your doctor, I would advise you for a stool test for ova and cyst and treat the infection with a suitable intestinal antibiotic/anti parasitic drug in addition to prescribing the proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole. For the chills I would also prescribe a paracetamol for you. This should relieve of your problems.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
