Is It Common To Have Swelling And Pain In Site Of Cochlear Implant?

Hello, I was implanted with a Nucleus 5 cochlear implant in November 2010. I have experienced severe muscle pain as well as headaches on the right side of my head (implanted side) since surgery and the pain is worsening. I had a marcaine injection last week and had one day of relief. Sharp pains come and go, I do not understand what triggers it? The area surrounding the implant site swells up at times and causes discomfort. Are these common symptoms? What are your suggestions?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
yes there can be an infection at that site. Visit an ENT SPECIALIST immediately because it can affect the implant also and might cause complications
