Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Dad has been on a paralytic agent, versed and fentenyl in the last 2 weeks. They took him off the paralytic agent after 3 days and then the versed 4 days ago. He is still on prn fentenyl but still has not woken up. Did CT scan on brain and EEG. Both normal. Just wondering why he is not waking up after 4 days off of sedation.
Fentanyl is an opioid medication and can cause sedation. Versed(midazolam) effect usually does not last beyond half a day. So it might be the fentanyl that is administered on pro basis that might be causing the sedation. Do check with your consultant whether any other organic thing might be causing the sedation. Hope the above information helps. Thank you.
