Is It Necessary To Give Vaxigrip Vaccine Every Year ?

My son is 15 months old. He was given vaxigrip vaccine ( Influenza ) 2 doses last year when he was 7 months and 8 months. Is is compulsory to give this vaccine again this year. Please advise. Rakesh

Hi Rakesh, Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum.
According to IAP, Hemophilus Influenzae Vaccine should be given in 10wks, 14 wks and 18 months and only under special circumstances the Influenza vaccine is given in 12 months. You should be consulting your Child's Doctor for second Opinion.

Dear Rakesh,the influenza vaccine given to prevent flu.Every year the strain of virus changes so the vaccine also changes.So it is recommended to give vaccine yearly.This is not a compulsory vaccine recommended by Indian academy of pediatrics.So you may opt for not giving it.

Dear Doc,

Thanks for your prompt reply. This vaccine is vaxigrip (bird flu) was given in 2 doses when my son was 7 and 8 months. My doctor has said that we have to give this dose again this year. Is it necessary to give this dose again this year?
