Is It Normal For Cold Sore To Leave A Scar On Lower Lip?
Hi Doctor, I recently had a Cold sore in the right corner of my lower lip. But ever since the Cold Sore Vanished so has a big piece of color sort of like a scar. Is this normal and will the Pigemant Reappear, its been about 3 Months now... I have oily skin if that's relevant :P
I can understand your concern for scar on lower lip after cold sore.
In genreal the cold sores leaves very superficial scarring which is basically pigmentation only if not secondarily infected. These superficial pigmentation is known as post-inflammatory pigmentation.
I suggest you to use Azelaic acid or Kojic acid creams as these can be used for a long period without any side effects. Use the cream in mildest possible amount and at night time only. I further suggest you to use proper sun protection. Use a good sunscreen daily for 2-3 times with best sun protection.
For the prevention of recurrence of the cold sore a long term antiviral tablet acyclovir in prophylactic dose can be taken under dermatological advise.
Take care
