Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I have a Bartholin cyst which was checked to years ago and was fine. I have never had any problems with it. Every so often fluid is released on its own. I began to bleed between periods around two months ago, which I just put down to spotting due to the contraceptive. This happens sometimes. However today I realised that the bleeding is coming from the cyst. I have no pain so I doubt it s an abscess. I m worried it may have turned into something more serious. Is it normal to bleed from a Bartholin cyst?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Bartholins cyst is formed by accumulation of secretions in Bartholins gland. Secretions accumulate due to blockage of cyst duct by inflammation. Infection of the cyst may lead to accumulation of pus and thus pain and other features of inflammation. Bleeding from the cyst may be due to injury to the soft tissues around the cyst. However, abnormal uterine bleeding should be first ruled out before diagnosing it as bleeding from Bartholins cyst. I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment and to determine the site of bleeding for further necessary action.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
