Is It Normal To Have Severe Pain In The Chest/esophegus Area With GERD?

Hallo Dr My husband has GERD 4, been prescribed Topzol, 2nd day use. He suddenly has severe pain in the chest/esophegus area. Is this normal? From no pain to this. He eats only alkaline foods and very little. Biopsy takn for barretts waiting for result. Many thanks

Yes, such pain can be present with GERD. Especially that he has Barrets esophagus suspicion. This sounds like there is an inflammation in the esophagus.
As long as this is not the pain radiating to the left arm or jaw, esophagus is the most probable reason. However if radiation to the left arm or jaw will appear, hear issues should be ruled out.

He should avoid any coffee, chocolate, orange juice, fatty foods, alcohol to improve stomach condition.
