Is It Normal To Have Vac Pump Associated Severe Ankle Pain?

I Have a vac pump on my ankle and it has healed to the top of the skin except for a very small spot. The nurse can hardly put a piece of sponge in it anymore. I have alot of pain coming from the vac pumping all the time and I have never had any drainage at all. The bubble in the tank still has not popped. It has been since december 20th that I had surgery for staph infection and celluitus. It was surface only and no bone infection. I have never had so much pain with a vac pump before. Is this normal? I am callin the infectious disease Dr Mon to see what he thinks I should do. My last appt they told me it would take 4 weeks. I cannot control the pain with pain pills and they make me sick also.

Hi
If there is severe pain you should consult your doctor. The severe pain developing in infections can be a compartment syndrome which need surgical care.So it is better to have a Orthopedic surgical consultation and rule out that. They might check your compartment pressure using needles.Hope this may help you.
thanks
