Is It Normal To Have Vac Pump Associated Severe Ankle Pain?
I Have a vac pump on my ankle and it has healed to the top of the skin except for a very small spot. The nurse can hardly put a piece of sponge in it anymore. I have alot of pain coming from the vac pumping all the time and I have never had any drainage at all. The bubble in the tank still has not popped. It has been since december 20th that I had surgery for staph infection and celluitus. It was surface only and no bone infection. I have never had so much pain with a vac pump before. Is this normal? I am callin the infectious disease Dr Mon to see what he thinks I should do. My last appt they told me it would take 4 weeks. I cannot control the pain with pain pills and they make me sick also.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi If there is severe pain you should consult your doctor. The severe pain developing in infections can be a compartment syndrome which need surgical care.So it is better to have a Orthopedic surgical consultation and rule out that. They might check your compartment pressure using needles.Hope this may help you. thanks
