Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I'm a sixty four year old man who has been on tarka for several years and my doctors office called today after my ecocardiogram and said he was switching my medicine to metoprolol. He knows I like to drink beer, yet no message regarding same accompanied the phone message. ???
Hello there, Nice to meet you here, You should avoid beer and other alcoholic drinks while on metoprolol ( beta blocker drug). Since alcohol will enhance the effect of the drug , it will further lower the blood pressure effect of metoprolol resulting hypotension. So dose adjustment and along with alcohol consumption is needed. Hope helped you, Feel free to contact me again anytime for any clarifications or further assistance in future. Take care. Regards, Dr. surendiran gaj.
