Is It Safe To Do Physical Activity With Elevated Blood Pressure?

my blood pressure is 156/86-88 in the mornings. Because of sinusitis, I haven t felt like running. My blood pressure has gone up from a normal of 128/76-78. Will it be ok to resume running? I was running 4 1/2 miles twice a week until 6 weeks ago. ron

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, welcome to HCM. Please take the blood pressure reading two more times to confirm it was more BP. Take complete treatement for sinusitis as this causes difficulty in breathing when you are running. Then if the BP is normal you can always start running again . If BP is 150/80mmhg range and your age is in 50s it is normal. You can do your running, but you should not get symptoms like chest discomfort, difficult to breathe when you are running. if that happens please take advice from physician and get tests like ECG. Take care and enjoy.
