Is It Safe To Give Meftal P After A Gap Of 4 Hours Of Taking Calpol To A 10 Month Old Baby?

Hi, my son ( 10 mnths old) suffering from fever since yesterday. We gave him calpol 250 mg as per precibed by doctor, even docter suggested to give meftal p as an SOS. Now its around 103 F. Can we give meftal p after a gap of 4 hours CALPOL250 mg. my son's weight is 8.75 kg. Reply ASAP.

Hi

Safest medicine for fever is Paracetamol in a dose of 15mg/kg/dose, repeated evry 6 hrs. Your son will need around 125 mg per dose.
So you can give him 2.5 ml of Calpol 250 every 6 hrs.

You may also give tepid sponging with tap water.

Meftal can be given if fever remains high and not responding to Paracetamol. you may give once or twice in between. Yes it can be given after 4 hrs.

But do not keep giving both the medicines frequently for a long time.
It"s better to give a single medication than both.
And viral fevers take 4 to 5 days to get okay.
