Is It Safe To Have Surgery To Remove Uterine Fibroid While Taking Claravis?

Yes, I would like to know if it is safe to have minor surgery (removal of a uterine Fibroid) while taking Accutane? I have been taking Claravis 30 mg every other day for 3 months but recently my GYN found I have a fibroid that needs to be removed due to menopausal bleeding. I understand that isotretinoin thins the skin and wondered if that might cause a problem internally during surgery. I am scheduled to have surgery next week but feel that most doctors are not up to speed on the effects of Claravis especially in an older patient, postmenopausal. Thank you

Hallow Dear,

Accutane or Claravis is medicines with isotretinoin as active reagent. Isotretinoin is a form of vitamin A. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself more quickly.

It does not have any reported adverse action during anaesthesia nor during surgery. The effects of Accutane on elderly or menopausal women also have not been reported; on the contrary, it has been reported that in those (elderly, menopausal) women where pregnancy is not a possibility, it is safer to use this medicine.

I do not find any contraindication in your surgery for Fibroid uterus - may it be Myomectomy or Hysterectomy.

I hope this helps you to take the decision.
