Hi,

While Ginette drug acts on acne, alopecia and mild form of hirsutism by its androgen dependent effects in women, Oratane acts by reducing the secretion of oil producing glands present in the skin and thus making the skin dry. It reduces the bacteria present in the skin thus preventing the skin from inflammation and pus formation usually found with acne. Most of the side effects are due to the drying effect of Oratane. As a matter of fact this effect of dryness tells us that the drug is acting and effective. Also, the side effects are mostly transient and resolve completely after stoppage of Oratane. Definitely, annoying side effects like drying of skin, fragile skin, peeling off skin, dryness of lips, cracked lips, reddened face are common. When these effects start, this shows that drug is acting and you should not stop the drug, rather continue taking the drug.

In fact, in the beginning the acne may be looked worse but by 7-10 days the good effect will be noticeable and symptoms of acne will start improving. Most of the side effects can be kept under control by good skin care like not squeezing the pimples, not removing the scales of pimple, not doing facial, waxing, electrolysis, coloring of hairs etc. Avoiding sun exposure, avoiding very hot baths are recommended. To avoid dry skin of face, oil free moisturizers are recommended. USE of lip balm for dryness of lips, moisturizing eye drops for eyes and petroleum jelly for inside of nose is also better. Still if you can not bear the temporary side effects, you are advised to consult your doctor who may reduce your dose of Oratane.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
