Is It Safe To Take Ativan During Later Stages Of Dementia?
my husband is at end stage of dementia and the meds he is being given are no longer woeking to keep him comfortable. he screams in agony but when asked if he is in pain he says no but i know the differecnce between agitated screams, attention seeking sreams and painful screams. his dr currently has him on 1mg 0f ativan every 4hrs and .50 mg of liquid haldol. i feel these are far too weak and what i am wanting to achieve is total comfort. any suggestions?
In the case of dementia, increasing the dose of Ativan can sometimes worsen the symptoms. Therefore, consider increasing the dose of Haldol for symptom control. Please be advised to discuss this with his treating physician and see if increasing the dose of Haldol is appropriate for your husband.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
