Is It Safe To Take Cymbalta And Tramadol Together?

I take Cymbalta (60 mg) in the a.m. and 100 mg. tramadol ER in the evening. I am concerned about taking both and wonder if those dosages are too much to take together? When I try to go off the tramadol, I get very agitated and have trouble getting to sleep.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Cymbalta contains duloxetine, which is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor (SSNRI) antidepressant.
Tramadol is an opioid pain medication used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Taking tramadol with other drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing can cause dangerous and life-threatening side effects.
You need to completely avoid taking tramadol with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxant, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.
If you are prescribed to take Cymbalta for depression, you need to avoid taking it with tramadol. It would be better to take a different category of analgesics instead of tramadol.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
