Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to wean myself off of Pamelor and begin Cymbalta. I am down to one 50 mg Pamelor at night 5 nights a week. My PA wants me to take 1 X 50mg. Pamelor on Monday, Wed, and Friday. The other 4 days I will take one Cymbalta 30mg. After following this for 10 days, I will go 100% on Cymbalta. Is this safe? I was on Pamelor for 25 years and started cutting back from 150 mg. to 50 mg. several weeks ago? Should there be a time period that I should not be on either Pamelor or Cymbalta. The withdrawal from Pamelor has been tough. I feel like my arms and legs are stiff and weak and shaky.....What is going on here?
Yes, Cymbalta(duloxetine) is safe to take for a long time. If you have been feeling better for 6 months or more, your doctor may suggest coming off duloxetine. Your doctor will probably recommend reducing your dose gradually over several weeks, or longer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH
