Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Safe To Take Garcinia Cambogia Supplement With Other Medications?
I am taking low doses of Nifedipine 30 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg. I am not taking any other supplements currently. I would like to start a new supplement called Garcinia Cambogia Plus. How far apart should I take my prescription medications from the supplement and is it safe to take this with medication. Thanks
Garcinia cambogia has been endorsed as an effective weight loss aid, but there are no scientific studies to support it.
However, there have been reports of Liver damage/ Hepatotoxicity following the use of Garcinia. As you are already taking anti hypertensives namely Nifedipine 30 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, there is also a risk of drug interaction.
So, in my opinion it will be better to consult your treating Doctor/ Cardiologist before starting the supplement.
Wishing you a Good Health. Take care.
