Is It Safe To Take Levothyroxine For Hypothyroidism?
Hi, I've had osteoarthritis for several years & it has got much worse over the last 6 months since I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism . I am taking levothyroxine, I am 56 & have been through the menopause. What's the best way to help myself ( particularly with pain) as they seems little help from the medical profession though I have a very supportive doctor, thanks.Alison.
Hi Alison Levothyroxine will help you to manage a lot of your symptoms that can be due to hypothyroidism. With the appropriate dose and the euthyroid state you will feel better. For the pain that is a sign of your osteoarthritis i think that a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug will help you to control the inflammation and to reduce the pain. This drugs are used to treat a variety of conditions that cause pain and inflammation, including osteoarthritis. But i suggest you to see see physically a rheumatologist for the prescription of the of the antiinflammatory drug/s that you need for the moment and the follow-up of your osteoarthritis. Hope i have answered to your question. If you have any other question i will be happy to help. Regards. Dr.Elona
