Is It Safe To Take Lexapro And Trazodone Together?
My mother is 90 years old. Just home from rehab after a hip fx. She is on Lexapro and Trazodone, along with numerous meds including insulin. Is it safe to take Lexapro and Trazodone together? We can t keep her awake and very unstable on her feet and confused. She was not like this prior to surgery and rehab.
It is not safe to take Lexapro and Trazodone together. If taken together these drugs can increase the risk of a serious condition called the serotonin syndrome due to accumulation of increased levels of serotonin in the body.
Serotonin syndrome is characterized by agitation or restlessness confusion, blurring of the vision, rapid heart rate and high blood pressure, loss of muscle coordination or twitching muscles, muscle rigidity, heavy sweating, diarrhea, and headache. You must consult her treating doctor for alternate effective but safer medications to treat her psychiatric problems.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
