Is It Safe To Take Lipitor And Hydrochlorothiazide For Vascular Dementia?

My husband is 64 and has just been diagnosed with vascular dementia. He is a recovering alcoholic, has not had a drink since May 2007 and takes Lipitor and hydrochlorothiazide (think for high blood pressure). He has had 3 situations over the past few years where he becomes disoriented, doesn't know where he is or what is going on. First lasted an hour or so, second till he went to bed (was fine when he woke up next morning) and most recently, lasted about 5 hours. He does not remember anything that happens during these "moments". Is there any way to forecast the prognosis? Is there a life expectancy?
