Is It Safe To Take Motrin While On Prozac?

Hi,five weeks ago my 20 mg capsule prozac was working perfect for 7 years, but I got injured and the pain was terrible for 5 weeks, the doc gave me 800 mg motrin to take every 8 hrs. but I was doing 1200 mg every 4 hrs for 5 weeks,I think this had something to do with my prozac to quit working for me about 2 1/2 weeks ago, I'm in depression right now, should I keep taking the 20 mg of prozac, I quit taking the motrin 5 days ago

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Motrin is Ibuprofen and the drug is a safe analgesic drug. Prozac is Fluoxetine. Motrin is taken with Prozac doesn't result in any serious drug interactions and its safe to take Motrin while on Prozac. You have been taking 20 mg Prozac since years and now the depressive symptoms relapsed. The dose of the drug you are taking is very low and this dose is not sufficient dose to help in depression. This is the reason that symptoms relapsed. Please consult a psychiatrist again and discuss about increasing the dose to 40-60 mg per day and the depressive symptoms would reduce.

Please don't self medicate your self, take medicines as per prescribed dose only.
