Hello doctor. I took an endoscopy 2 days back and Dr said esophagus near throat is sensitive. They found out a small polyp in stomach and removed it. I have acid reflux problems and burning sensation in throat. I am already taking omeprazole 20mg for a month now. Dr said to continue for 3 months. Is it OK to have that tablet for so long? Please advise. thank you sindhu
I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. Omeprazole is a drug belonging to proton pump inhibitor group and is widely used for acid reflux. It does have some side effects including headache, dizziness, upper respiratory infection, cough, Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, constipation, back pain, weakness, skin rash. Most of these side effects are mild and the drug is well tolerated. However if you feel that the side effects are troubling you in a major way you may consult your doctor who may put on on another related drug. I strongly advice you against leaving the drug without medical advice.
