Is It Safe To Take Panadol And Augmentin To Treat Ear Blockage And Discharge?

Good evening. I accidentally ruptured my ear drum with a cotton swab. My ear is blocked and some cream discharge is coming out. It pains in the night. I visited the doctor at the ENT clinic three days later, and, after inspection, he prescribed Puritin (to be taken nightly), an ear drop, Panadol and Augmentin (to be taken every twelve hours). He explained that the infection in the middle ear must be taken care of first before the ear drum can begin healing. I want to know how long should the infection take to get rid of and how long should the healing process take?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain ruptured ear drum tend to heal with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers and decongestants..
But in case if you have a cream discharge from the ears it seems to be pus and is indicative of infection..
In case if there will be infection in ear then the healing of the eardrum will be delayed and there is a possibility that it will worsen rather than healing..
So you are advised right and the infection needs to be treated first..
The time that is needed for healing to occur depends upon severity of infection and can take from a week to 15 days to resolve..
So I would suggest you to continue taking the medication as advised and also avoid excessive water exposure to the ear like swimming.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
