Is It Safe To Take Prednisolone For Blister Like Rashes On Arms And Legs?

Hi, I have blistery rash all over my arms and legs. I thought it started after being poked by a blackberry thorn but then remembered that I was fishing and there is poison ivy all over the river banks so could have come into contact with that even though I did not see any where I walked. I was also exposed to chicken pox but that was clear back over the easter weekend. I have never had anything itch so bad. My family MD prescribed 5 days of Prednisolone and alegra bid but it hasn t seemed to take care of this. So the time table on these is:Chicken Pox APRIL 5, 2015 POSION IVY MAY 18, 2015 BLACKBERRY THORN POKE MAY 21,2015

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Prednisone is a corticosteroid. It helps to relieve swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions. There is no problem in taking the medicines prescribed by your treating doctor for 5 days. It will help to control the spread of infection (rashes). Apply hydrocortisone cream to the affected area if the rash is very itchy and causing discomfort. Calamine lotion / Soframycin cream can also help relieve rashes.

You should get relieve & symptoms should reduce. Clean your bedding in hot water frequently. Avoid sex for a couple of days if sexually active. However, if you are not getting relieve get tested for STD, HSV 1 and HSV 2. This is to stay on the safer side. If the reports are positive you will need antibiotics and antivirals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
