Is It Safe To Take Simvastatin To Control Cholesterol Levels?

My LDL is 121, the highest it has ever been. HDL and Tri both normal and totavl cholesterol is 212. Doc recommending simvastatin but I am afraid of side effects. What is your opinion?, I am 60 year old female of normal weight and BMI, A1c level 6.0 and currently taking metformin

Yes it is safe and effective in reducing the cholesterol levels.
LDL cholesterol is considered as the most important risk factor of heart disease.

Since you are taking Metformin probably for the treatment of diabetes, so it is very much required to be used to reduce the high cholesterol levels.

The most important side effects of Simvastatin include muscle pains, right upper abdominal pain due to inflammation of the liver.

If you develop these symptoms kindly inform your treating doctor so that an alternate but safer drug can be used to reduce the cholesterol level.
