Is It Safe To Take Horsegram Porridge After Taking Thyroid Tablet?

I am 47 years old female. I have gain so much weight since last August after undergoing total hysterectomy. In March 2014 I was diagnosed with thyroid and on medication. I have read somewhere that horsegram helps to reduce weight and consuming small portion every of horsegram porridge every morning for a about 1.5 months now after taking my thyroid tablet. I reduce weight slightly but my main problem now is severe body aching, knee pain (i can bend down to do my prayers, i am a Hindu). Suddenly i feel cold and sometimes sweaty badly. i can t concentrate on my work. Stress, tension, depression (crying without reason) just to ease myself. not sleeping well. each time i change position in bed, my whole body is aching, cramping etc. is it a mistake taking horsegram porridge after taking thyroid tablet? when i get up from my office chair or get down from car i couldn t walk for a while. my legs are aching badly. i don t know how to explain further on my health condition. lately i feel death is the best solution. can someone help me to explain what is actually happening to me? Thank you Doctor.

Hello - First of all, you must not eat ANYTHING for at least an hour after taking your thyroid medication so that it can be properly absorbed. Secondly, you are Hindu which places you at risk for a regional iodine deficiency. You must have enough iodine foreven your medication to work. The government generally puts the iodine in the salt but still 20% or more are iodine deficient. Please make certain you are using iodized salt. If your thyroid works properly, weight loss will come easier. Next, have you had a menopause discussion with your doctor or other women in the community?? Have you gone through menopause? Your symptoms are similar to those experienced about your age when menopause begins. As far as horsegram goes, it has a blood sugar and lipid lowering effect and is used historically for medicinal purposes. It is also used in cooking extensively. I see nothing wrong in you eating it, just not with your Synthroid. Then, as far as your other symptoms, see a physician for a physical examination and he may be able to help you with your symptoms especially if any depression is involved. My hopes for your road back to wellness, back to being whole . . .
