Is It Safe To Take Norvelo For Those Who Had Ectopic Pregnancy?
Hi, I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2013 August. Since after the ectopic, I have been having my periods normally. For Month of January my periods dates were from 02 January to 07 January 2014, which was normal. I had an uprotected sex on the 10 January and took norvelo 6 hours later after the intercourse. Only after taking norvelo I realised that I was not supposed to take it,because its not supposed to be taken by people who have had ectopic pregnancy. What is going to happen to me? Should I get worried because I already took the pill? Will I be able to conceive again in future?
Hi, It is good that you took Norvelo soon after the unprotected sex to avoid pregnancy. Taken like this it is 95% effective.
History of ectopic pregnancy is NOT a contraindication to using Norvelo. So don't get worried. I do not understand why the company is giving this misinformation in their leaflet. The Norvelo gets washed off from the body in few days. It does not affect your fertility at all. You can conceive again in future.
If your period gets delayed by a week then do pregnancy test, as there is a small possibility of pregnancy due to method failure.
If you wish to postpone pregnancy I advise you to consult your doctor and start regular contraception like hormonal contraception or intrauterine devise as they are very effective in preventing pregnancy. I hope I have answered to your satisfaction. If you have any further queries do contact me through healthcare magic
