Is It Safe To Take Two Pepcid To Control Heartburn And Acidic Reflux?

I have been experiencing heartburn lately and occasionally have to take something. I have tried and like the way Pepcid AC - Regular Strength works. Every Once in a while my heartburn seems worse and I have a little acid reflux. Would it be safe to take 2 tablets within 2 hours? I would not take more than the 2 tablets in the 24 hour period recommended. My doctor knows about this situation and has agreed that I can take the Pepcid.

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

You are apparently suffering from GERD (Gastro-esophageal reflux disease) with possible H.pylori infection.

A 2-weeks' course of anti-H.pylori therapy + Prokinetic drug such as metoclopramide + Probiotic such as, Lactobacilli; followed by (with effect from Day 15), 2-4 months' course of anti-acid drug (such as Rabeprazole or Lansoprazole) plus Probiotic and digestive enzymes, will cure the disease.

You should however, consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests (breath test for H.pylori, stool examination for bacteria and, Endoscopy). Based on the reports, he will prescribe the advised curative treatment in appropriate doses.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
