Always wear soft cotton clothes that are not tight-fitting. Do not touch, scratch or pick the hives. It may cause spread or worsening of the symptoms. Apply a soothing anti-itch lotion or cream like Prax lotion, any lotion or cream containing Pramoxine or a cream containing menthol.
It will can give you relief from the itch. Taking antihistamine will give you relief. This medication can help control the itch and swelling. Take it at bed time. If the hives are resistant, you need a stronger antihistamine, get clinically examined by a
dermatologist, you may be prescribed
Doxepin. You may require a repeat treatment with
corticosteroids. When hives are severe,
prednisone can reduce the inflammation and itch.
When antihistamines fail to work, Omalizumab is given, an injectable medication to treat resistant, chronic hives. Other treatment is
phototherapy. Your dermatologist may give you medicines to calm your immune system like
