Is It Safe To Undergo Cervical Strip Close To The Due Date Of Delivery?
Hi, Iam Bhargavi, aged 25. Now my 37th week is running. My doctor said that she will be doing cervical strip on my 38 week 1 day. But my delivery date was given on Apr 18th and she wanted to do cervical strip on Mar 20th. I dont know what does it mean & why it should be done now. Could you please get me some knowledge on this. I am scared.
Cervical stripping is a procedure in which your doctor does internal examination and separates the lower part of baby sac from the cervix. This stripping releases prostaglandins which help in initiating the labour early.
If you and your baby are keeping good heath and there are no problems, there is no need to do cervical stripping now. If I were your doctor I would wait till 40 weeks pregnancy. If you don't deliver by 40 weeks, Then I would do cervical stripping to initiate labour early. At this time I would also advise you to do daily fetal monitoring for 20 minutes ( Non stress test). I would induce labour at 41 weeks if not delivered by then. I hope I have answered to your satisfaction.
