You are in a difficult place and doing the right thing. Your attempts to diet and lose weight will pay off. It is hard, slow and incredibly rewarding. Be sure that you get good treatment for sleep apnea first. With respect to supplementing with medicine, the answer is not simple. If you are considering that route, get help through a recognized weight loss program (not one that tries to funnel you to a surgery). Medicines to help weight loss may help in the short term but cause problems later. Your decision to use them should come after a discussion with a physician and dietician.
