Is It Safe To Withdraw From Ensure Drinks While Recovering From Water Infection?

Hi. My mother in-law has been very poorly lately with a really bad water infection and dropped sodium levels. She stopped eating and lost 3 stone. The family spoke the GP about giving her ensure drinks which she was having 1-2 a day as that was all she cud manage as well as the smallest bits of food. She is now on the road to recovery and is eating a lot more now so should she continue with the 2 ensures a day or should she cut it down to 1??

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

She can continue or stop if she wishes.

Because it is not a prescribed medication with no side effects (except possible weight gain) or withdrawal symptoms , if it is discontinued suddenly, the option is hers or yours.

If she has returned to her normal diet, then she can discontinue if she wishes.

I hope this helps
