Is It Scarlet Fever If Child Is Experiencing Rashes All Over Body After Being Treated With Amoxicillin For Sore Throat, White Patches On Throat?
hi yes, my 7 year old son was see 8 days ago with a bad sore throat and white patches on his throat. Strep test came back negative. NP decided to treat anyway with Amoxicillin. He's been taking it for 7 days. He had a fever on sunday all day off and on. No fever on Monday, however has been tired everyday since. He came home today with red little rash all over his body. He didn't even notice it until I saw it. Is this scarlet fever? Thank you
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
Your child was seen for what sounds like strep throat and treated appropriately with Amoxicillin. The fever and rash are convincing for the possibility of Scarlet Fever (the fever usually preceeds the rash just like you described). Given that this is an extremely contagious problem, and the fact that if not treated properly can lead to other complications (related to the heart), I would suggest having your child seen as soon as possible. They may need an extended course of antibiotics.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
