Is It Sufficient To Take Dexorange Capsules For Low Iron Or Ferritin Level?

Hi, I am suffering from low iron/ferritin for quite some time. My Iron binding capacity and hb are at good level, however iron is still below normal range. I have started taking one dexorange capsule everyday. Will it help in improving my iron levels?

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

You have low serum iron and ferritin with normal hemoglobin and iron binding capacity. This reflects that your iron stores are just getting depleted. It takes 3 months to fill up the iron stores. The dose is 100 mg iron tablets once daily.

Just check to see the concentration in your iron capsules. If it is 100 mg , take it for three months and retest serum iron levels. If levels are still low, it indicates problems with absorption [less likely in your case as hemoglobin is normal]. In that case you may need intravenous iron after consulting your treating physician.

Dietary modification in the form of increased green leafy vegetables like spinach, carrots, beetroots, fruits like apple, papaya, pomegranate [and liver soup for non vegetarian people] are recommended to be used frequently to prevent development of further deficiency.

Hope I was able to help you. Thanks for using Health Care Magic.
I would be happy to answer any further queries.
Have a nice day.

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
For treatment of anemia, a multipronged approach is essential.
First is dietary modification - have lots of spinach, dry fruits, beef, liver , poultry, fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, dates, walnuts.
Also, you should take iron supplements twice daily atleast.
Dexorange is fine.
You have not mentioned your hemoglobin levels, so please do that.
Accordingly the dosage of iron supplements should be adjusted.
If you are not able to tolerate oral iron, parenteral iron therapy is indicated.
Also, exercise regularly, and avoid eating outside.
Deworm yourself if you are living in an endemic country.
Alongside, please take multivitamin and B complex tablets also.
All the best.
Take care.
