Is It To Be Concerned About The Swelling In The Gland Under The Tongue?
Swollen gland under tongue. Have had this problem for 3 months. Oral surgeon said something about a duct.. Prednisone decreased the swelling that was interfering with speach. The swelling went down more than half way but still remains. Will a second treatment with prednisone decrease the swelling or is surgery required? The oral surgeon mentioned a duct, but I'm not sure which gland he was talking about.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain a swollen gland under tongue seems to be Swollen Submandibular Salivary Gland which is a major salivary gland present just below jaw line and it can get swollen either due to infection or clogged duct due to formation of crystalline stones from minerals present in saliva that can obstruct the duct of the gland and saliva flows back into gland as the obstruction does not.let it flow into mouth.. You should not take Prednisone on your own and consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an MRI of Salivary Gland and other tests like Blood and saliva culture can help in ruling out infection and treatment can be planned accordingly.. If there is infection antibiotics will resolve.. In case of stones manual or surgical removal depending upon location of stones will help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora.
