Hi, Based on the history your mother seems to have developed gouty arthritis apparently caused by the medicines Pyzina and Combutol. After confirming the diagnosis she may be given a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug like indomethacin or naproxen. Ask her to take plenty of oral fluids. A low steroid with tapering dose may be required for severe attacks. You do not need to discontinue Pyzina or Combutol. Recurrent attacks may occur while taking these medicines, consider rheumatologic evaluation for acute gouty arthritis attacks and possible use of colchicine to prevent recurrent attacks.
