Is Knee Pain A Symptom Of Posterior Cruciate Ligament Injury?

I m a runner and running coach. One of my students and I have the same symptom: mild pain in the PCL area behind the knee, mostly when running uphill. No daily pain when walking or standing. Is this a possible PLC tear beginning? Or, something else? (I m 54 and my student is 16. I run 30 miles per week. He runs 40 to 50.)
