Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello : My wife has advanced glaucoma . She recently has had cataract surgery on each eye . Her pressures have been reduced to 22 in each eye . However ; now her specialist is recommending a new procedure on each eye (laser)….? What would you recommend ? Second opinion ? We are located in Canada…..we are getting frustrated as my wife has been to 7 specialists over the past 6 months…they vary in opinion from very concerned to... it has been stabilized for the time being . Of course our concern is blindness . Please give us your opinion . Any input would be very appreciated . God bless ; Marvin
Welcome to HCM I appreciate your health concern for your wife Your are quiet right for being confused over different opinions of different doctors. Dear i would be able to help you better if you had mentioned what kind of laser the doctor has suggested for her ? one kind of excimer laser is for refraction which is done to get rid of glasses if patient is using them for vision and need cosmesis Another laser is for making a hole in iris to relieve the pressure of eye for a better control in glaucoma patient and decreasing need for topical drops.Similarly another laser can be for retina if your wife is developing any oedema or symptoms there. In short, whatever type the ophthalmologist has suggested for your wife will be beneficial for her as none of these come with side effects and majority of the times these have results in favour of the patients eye.so dont worry and in my opinion go for it.may she get well soon regards Dr faeza
