Is Left Leg Weakness Serious After Treating Sciatica In The Right Leg?

I m s/p L45 discectomy and laminectomy for rt sided sciatica. 6 mos later I m having a sciatic attack in the left leg mostly characterized by motor weakness. Is this serious motor neuron damage or just a normal symptom of a sciatic attack. Is this a complication of the previous rt sided decompression? Is the weakness transient or more serious?

Hi,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to spinal cord compression. For this reason, I recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and a spinal column MRI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
